The third week of the Brasileirão is over and we bring you some of the highlights of this week. If you would like a more detailed explanation of the graphs used, please see this text here. Let’s check out the matches!
[translations to the charts will be available in the near future]
Cruzeiro 2 x 1 Goiás:
- Egídio was one of the most active players in the Cruzeiro’s attack, with 3 shots and 2 passes for shots.
- Also, Pedro Rocha has an interesting role, he alternates between being a second striker (closer to the box) and a left wing.
- Goiás created most of its chances from set pieces
- The Esmeraldino team team always shoots in whichever side Michael is playing. In this match the young player was on the left (in the other games he played more on the far right).
Ceará 1 x 2 Atlético MG:
- Ceará attacked predominantly through right side. Chico, Ricardinho and Samuel Xavier moved that region and sought to overload Fábio Santos, Atlético’s left back and find passes for striker Ricardo Bueno.
- Atlético responded to Ceará’s plan. Fábio Santos stopped attacking in order to contain Ceará’s attack through that zone.
- With Fabio Santos more fixed in defense, Guga, the right back, was released to support the attacking players and had a great performance, with an assist to Nathan.
Palmeiras 1 x 0 Internacional:
- A typical Felipão (Palmeiras’ coach) game. Palmeiras beat Inter exchanging few passes, not letting the opponent finish and being more effective.
- Dudu was the most offensively involved player of the Alviverde team.
- Internacional failed to break through Palmeiras defensive structure. The Colorado was down one goal since the early minutes, passes more than the home team but could not shoot on goal.
- Most of the Inter’s shots were from far range and caused virtually no troubles to Palmeiras.
São Paulo 1 x 1 Flamengo:
- São Paulo was the team with the largest shot volume this week (22 shots) and gave a lot of action to César, the Flamengo’s goalkeeper.
- Tchê Tchê São Paulo’s best player, constantly appearing on attack and finishing.
- Flamengo used their reserves and youth and focused on defending after scoring in the early moments of the game.
- Play creation almost an exclusive responsibility to Diego, who played very weel (especially in the first half).
Vasco 1 x 1 Corinthians:
- Vasco tested to changing the positions of Pikachu and Sasse against Corinthians, and the change seems to have had positive effects.
- Vasco’s Pokémon was the player who most appeared in the attack, with 3 shots and 3 passes for shots.
- Corinthians, who played with team full of reserves, the shot accuracy was pretty low. Only 2 shots were on target (1 of them resulted in a goal).
- Matheus Vital, fighting for a spot on the starting XI, scored a goal and played well.
Botafogo 1 x 0 Fortaleza:
- The Botafogo had an interesting match and managed to shoot several times from within the penalty box and with against the Fortaleza. The style of the Carioca team is changing and everything indicates that the change is for the better.
- Erik was Botafogo’s offensive highlight team.
- Fortaleza had difficulties creating good chances. Junior Santos was the one who shot the most, but the best chances were with Wellington Paulista.
CSA 0 x 0 Santos:
- CSA did not have possession of the ball against Santos and tried to explore counterattacks. In the few moments that the team managed to have the ball, it passed on the left side, especially with Carlinhos and Matheus Savio.
- Santos’ pass map shows that Diego Pituca is literally the center piece of the team. Pituca is involved in passes frequently with all the other players of the team.
- Rodrygo shot a lot in the game (5 shots), he is playing closer to the penalty box, as a second striker.
Grêmio 4 x 5 Fluminense:
- Fluminense played most epic game of this Brasileirão so far against Grêmio. Flu conceded 3 quickly and was able to make a historical comeback.
- Highlights for the Yony’s performance (6 shots) and for the tactical change made by F. Diniz (changing the defensive midfielder Airton for the more creative midfielder Daniel).
- Grêmio lost focus and gave away the 3 points that were considered certain at some points in the game. It was able to get the score to 3 to 0 and then greatly reduced the intensity.
- In the second half, after the Fluminense’s, Grêmio had difficulties in creating chances.
Bahia 1 x 0 Avaí:
- Bahia once again showed an interesting pattern. The 3 attackers (Gilberto, Rogério and Artur) play very close to each other and receive long balls from the fullbacks (N. Paraíba and Paulinho).
- Roger Machado’s team shot several times from within the box.
- Avaí practically offered no danger to Bahia. It was the team that shot the least in this week (5 times). The team needs to improve a lot if they want to continue in the Série A. If they follow the “typical” pattern of Brazilian teams, they will likely end up change their coaching staff before the 10th week.
Chapecoense 1 x 1 Athletico PR:
- Unfortunately the game was not televised, so Instat could not collect match data. In cases like this it won’t be possible to write the analysis.
