The attackers of the 2019 Brasileirão can be divided into 4 different finishing profiles using two pieces of information:

  • Number of shots per 90 minutes (Shots/90 min)
  • Quality of each shot (xG/Shot)

1. Fewer shots of lower quality

Many of these players are wingers, so they do not get as many high-quality scoring opportunities. In this group, attackers have fewer than 2 shots per game. Some examples are:

  • Rossi (VAS)

  • A. Victor (BAH)

  • Clayson (COR)

2. More shots of lower quality

Players in this group take many shots per game, but they do not always manage to finish in high-probability scoring situations. Some examples are:

  • Éverton (GRE)

  • Marinho (SAN)

  • Vitinho (FLA)

3. Fewer shots of higher quality

Here we have the classic box strikers. They generally finish in very dangerous areas, but on the whole do not manage many shots throughout matches. Some examples are:

  • W. Paulista (FOR)

  • Boselli (COR)

  • M. Ruben (CAP)

4. More shots of higher quality

This group contains the most impactful and dangerous players. They generate many shots with a high probability of resulting in goals. “These players will score today!” Some examples are:

  • Gabigol (FLA)

  • B. Henrique (FLA)

  • A Caike (BAH)
